Autocardiography is a word I coined to write about my heart condition, atrial fibrillation (AF). Although I am not a cardiologist, I am a physician (M.D.) board-certified in clinical immunology/allergy. After I discovered I had AF, I began a search to understand the potential consequences, particularly the increased risk for stroke and heart failure. Serendipitously, I discovered scientific observations about the pharmacology of magnesium supplements that were significant and underappreciated. I developed ‘My Zebra Treatment Protocol,’ which converted my AF to normal heart rhythm (sinus rhythm) for more than one year. Noteworthy, my AF had been long-standing persistent (over one year or more in duration), which is often unresponsive to current treatments. The protocol is based on data from articles in prominent medical journals cited in the bibliography and supported by statistical confirmation indicating that the results are significant. My Zebra Treatment Protocol is based on scientific criteria, selecting magnesium supplements that effectively converted my AF to NHR. It includes other important knowledge that magnesium deficiency is present in the heart cells of ninety percent of individuals with AF, even if they have normal blood magnesium levels. Another observation indicates oral magnesium supplements must be administered at least six to twenty weeks to replenish the deficiency. Self-monitoring EKGs 3-4 times daily with APPs on smartphones is an essential part of the protocol that enabled me to titrate dosing of magnesium and potassium based on whether my AF converted to NHR. Additionally, the book contains a unified theory explaining how unhealthy lifestyles overstimulate a specific defense mechanism of immunity that may result in inflammation underlying AF.
