Night is Elie Wiesel’s autobiographical account of his experiences as a Jewish teenager during the Holocaust.

The story begins in Sighet, Transylvania, where young Eliezer lives with his family and devotes himself to religious study. When the Nazis occupy Hungary in 944, the Jewish community is gradually stripped of its rights and eventually deported.

Eliezer and his father are sent to Auschwitz, where he is separated from his mother and sisters. The two are forced to endure starvation, brutal labor, violence, disease, humiliation and the constant threat of death.

As the horrors of the concentration camps continue, Eliezer’s relationship with God and his understanding of humanity begin to change. The suffering he witnesses forces him to confront profound questions about faith, justice, morality and the meaning of survival.

When the Nazis evacuate the camp, Eliezer and the other prisoners are forced on a deadly march through the winter. He and his father eventually reach Buchenwald, where his father dies from illness and physical abuse.

Eliezer survives until the liberation of Buchenwald on April , 945. Although he is physically free, the experience permanently changes his understanding of life, faith, family and human nature.
